Description
How do I use the Large Reading Rainbow symbols?
Teachers can use these symbols to show pupils which three reading lenses they are focusing on in a Book Talk session. Displaying these symbols during a session will ensure pupils can discuss the purpose of their learning without the need to write learning objectives.
The reading lenses can also be displayed and referred to when using reading skills in other areas of the curriculum. For example, when distinguishing between fact and opinion in a history session. In addition, the lenses can be used to direct and deepen discussions about individual reading or a text being shared in a class story session.
Please note: A detailed explanation of each of the reading lenses can be found in Jane Considine’s book – ‘Hooked on Books – Transforming the Teaching of Reading’
