How do I use the EYFS Reading Rainbow symbols?
Teachers can use these symbols to show pupils in the early years how to delve into early language, communication and early writing. The symbols work as a visual prompt at times of role play, mark making, word collecting, discussion, drama and story telling.
The top tier of the rainbow, the FANTASTICs, is a space for children to sort and collect their ideas whilst playing and gaining knowledge and experience of the world.
The second tier, the CATALYTICs, captures the types of communication that need to be explored to put children in the best place to be rich and effective thinkers, talkers and emergent writers.
The third tier, the REALISTICs, provides a framework to ensure children meet a rich range of writing opportunities.
